Human Rights
The purpose of our Human Rights activity is two-fold:
- To realise the human rights of the Māori customary owners of the Nelson Tenths Reserves
- To keep the Nelson Tenths kaupapa at the front of the Government’s mind as we continue our fight for justice
Key activity
In 2024, New Zealand’s human rights record is being considered by the United Nations (UN) as part of the UN Human Rights Council’s five-yearly Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
As part of the UPR, in February 2024 we presented a statement about the Nelson Tenths Reserves to foreign diplomats in Geneva, Switzerland.
We also contributed to a stakeholder report drawing from New Zealand’s Human Rights Commission, civil society and other NGOs.
